Donate your time at a nursing home and brighten someone's day

Have you ever visited a nursing home? Or is it a place you avoid because in the back of your mind you know that one day you will get old. Most people hope that they will remain in good health and can look after themselves in their own homes. Unfortunately  some people do get sick and need to live in a nursing home as they are unable to care for themselves.

A friend of mine works as a nurse at one of these places and she told me that the nurses are so busy doing the basics (feeding, bathing, giving medication) that they do not have time to sit and have a chat with the patients. Many of the elderly have no regular visitors so they sit by themselves and pass their time by watching TV etc.

If you can spare some time, volunteer at a nursing home and brighten up someone else's day. Each home will have its own rules and regulations. So find out what you have to do to become a volunteer.

Be mindful of how you treat your parents

It has been a while since I posted anything to my website, however please feel free to like my page to read my current thoughts.

Main reason for the delay in posting is that my son has not been well. He has an illness that is taking him weeks to recover. I am juggling work with caring for him and I have to admit that I will appreciate the health of my children and I, even more from now on. You do not really understand how important health is until there is something wrong with it. So look after yourself, eat healthy (as much as possible) and exercise regularly. It is amazing how your health underpins every part of your life and those around you.

Last week I wrote on my Facebook page about a couple I knew who were not being treated very well by their adult children. If you already read this my apologies, but I feel I need to rewrite it in this blog on my website.

Be mindful of how you treat your parents.

Last week I caught up with some friends I had not seen in a while. They are kind and generous people. The hubby grew up in country Victoria Australia. He said they were poor but he enjoyed his childhood. There was plenty of love.

Now they are in their sixties and they are comfortable.

However they are heart broken by the way two of their children treat them. The children are not thoughtful of their parents and are rude and cruel. Yes cruel. The kids are financially successful but morally they lack empathy and manners.

I guess I was upset by the way these friends were being treated. They deserved kindness in their twilight years after the great way they raised their children.

Give a little thought to the people who raised you. Of course if your parents were abusive or toxic you would reduce or cut ties. However if they showed you love and support, treat them well, they deserve it.

Remember we all get old and karma is funny ...how do you want to be treated when you get older...

Take care of yourself everyone and be grateful for the blessings in your life.
