The past cannot be altered and thinking about it is wasted energy. You have to make the decision today to stop dwelling on the bad things that have happened to you. Focus on what is happening now and then think about your future. Tomorrow is a blank canvas and you can create whatever you want. Always remember that you may have had a tough past, but you get to decide what happens to your future. You are the only one who can choose to have a better future.
Some people blame their parents for their problems now. You may have had a tough or an even abusive childhood however your parents did the best they could. They may have also had a difficult childhood so they did not have the skills to nurture you in a positive way. Your parents are only human and you have to try and let go of any anger or resentment you have towards them. This does not mean you have to have a relationship with them. You just have to let go of trying to blame them.
The life you now lead is your responsibility. You cannot use the excuse of what happened to you ten years ago for what is happening in your life now. Draw a line in the sand and see a counsellor if necessary to help you move on with your life. When you keep thinking about all the negative things that happened to you, there is no opportunity to move on and you will continue to harbour resentments and attract negativity into your life. You deserve to be happy now, so let go of your past.
