Enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

It was school holidays for the previous couple of weeks and I returned back to work this week and reality. The greatest realisation that was reinforced during my vacation was how I needed to enjoy life more. I believe that it was Ralph Waldo Emerson who said "Life is a journey, not a destination." Having a break made me realise how I needed to appreciate the
journey of life even more. I had been caught up with work and even though I may have been home physically on the weekends, my mind was at work. Also when I was at home, I was busy taking care of my house and family. The break made me realise I needed to savour life more and take care of myself.

For instance, one of the activities that made me feel great during my break was going for a walk along the beach each morning. Observing the sun, water and beautiful palette of colours energised me at the beginning of each day. Another was spending time and touching base with family and friends. This made me laugh and relax as only good relationships can do. Like the movie ‘Ground hog day’ many of you get up each day and perform the same routine day after day. So you never truly have a proper break, appreciate living and take care of your own needs.

I have made a new ‘financial year’ resolution to look after myself and relax, as the Australian financial year starts on the
1st July. I walk everyday on my treadmill at home anyway, but I now plan to do yoga at least once a week. This is a great way to de-stress and feel recharged. Having young kids prevent me from going to classes, so I have been using a yoga dvd. Another resolution is to eat more fresh fruit and vegetables regularly. Winter can make you feel sluggish so hopefully my new regime will realign my spirit and give me more energy. More importantly it will allow me to relish life just that little bit more.

How are you feeling? Do you need to look at your current routine and maybe tweak it a little bit too? Sometimes you are so caught up with housework, work and looking after your family that you do not even realise until you stop that you have neglected your own needs. So look at your life and think about what you can do now so that you can feel better.

Have a safe and happy week everyone and above all look after yourselves.
